Online Mediation

Welcome to OnlineMediation.ie part of Talklistenresolve.com mediation and conflict resolution services. As a mediation practitioner with over 7 years experience I have provided Mediation for Separating/Divorcing Couples & Families, Succession Mediation and Mediation for Workplaces as a certified member of the MII (Mediators Institute of Ireland).

PLEASE NOTE: I am currently providing parenting, separating/divorcing couples mediation on behalf of the Legal Aid Board and am unable to take on private referrals for these types of cases at this time.

Since the start of the pandemic in 2020 I have mediated disputes online for separating/divorcing couples & families, workplaces, and community/neighbour disputes. Mediation is delivered in accordance with the Mediation Act 2017 the Mediators Institute of Ireland Code of Ethics and Practice. For many disputes online video mediation sessions can be beneficial as:

  • Parties may live/work in different locations
  • Parties may be more comfortable not sharing the same physical space
  • Mediation can take place at times more suitable for the parties i.e. evenings and weekends
  • Documents can be emailed and time saved.

Whats involved?

The normal process of mediation does not change for online mediation, the only difference is the means of communication. After an initial, informal and obligation free phone call with both parties an ‘Agreement to Mediate’ is emailed and e-signed by all parties. In the ‘Agreement to Mediate’ the privacy of the mediation process is protected i.e. sessions are not recorded and only the parties themselves are in attendance among other rules. Mediation then takes takes place through online video call and in some cases include phone mediation.

In the majority of cases mediation can be delivered over the course of 3-6 meetings (one-to-one and/or joint meetings) with the option of further meetings as needed and agreed.

How does it work?

By bringing in a neutral third party skilled in Dispute Resolution and Mediation, problems can be successfully negotiated by encouraging all parties to see things from each others perspective and to realise the harm negative behaviours can cause.

Mediation is confidential, cost effective and all decisions are made by the parties concerned.  It is important to note that not all mediations end in agreement however in the vast majority of cases agreement is reached.  Mediation is a dispute resolution process designed to give both parties the best chance to reach a balanced agreement together.
